Chennai: Global IT major EDS is planning agressive forays into the growing Indian business process management sector eyeing governmental and corporate business.The multi-billion US-based company, which has a dominant presence in as many as 61 countries, has already tied up with the Delhi-based new Shonkh Technologies to cater to the governmental business the company was targeting, Ram Seshadri, managing director of EDS' Indian operations, told PTI.
"India is very much on our priority list and we would be going ahead in the most aggressive manner in the coming days," he said adding that as a Pilot project a most advanced multimedia call centre would be set up in the country shortly.
"The idea is to tap both the export as well as domestic market for end-to-end business software solutions," Mr Seshadri said adding that already the company's high-end management consultancy subsidiary, AT Kearney, as well as EDS Information Solutions and Enterprise Solutions divisions had its presense in India, offering services to both MNCs and Indian corporates.
He said that now it was the turn of the business process division of the company to make inroads into the highly competitive process management sector in the country. The Indian operations of EDS is now four-years-old and the company had one of its major outsourcing centre operating in Chennai besides marketing base in Delhi, Mr Seshadri said.
Facilities in Chennai would be expanded considering the growing outsourcing requirements of the company, he said, adding that EDS has already aquired an 86,000 square feet space in the prestigious Tidel Park in the city and a major part of the software development operations would be shifted to the new premises by the end of this month.
The focus areas of the company are governmental financial transactions, banking, insurance, automobile industry, healthcare, transport and retail sector across the globe.
Mr Seshadri said last year was one of the best for EDS due to major business orders which included a $ 500 million contract from the US Navy. He said in a major initiative towards stregthening its service capabilities, EDS has decided to acquire the US-based SABRE.
