Mumbai: Datamatics Limited has tied up with `The World Internet Secure Key' (WISeKey SA) to develop third generation PKI (public key infrastructure) utilities and software based on WISeKey's Common ROOT, for the mass usage of digital certifications and PKI-enabled applications for secure e-business transactions across industries and nations. Datamatics has invested Rs five crore in designing the core security engines for e-commerce transactions. This solution is the first PKI-enabled portal security system to be rolled out in 188 countries worldwide. WISeKey SA, is backed and promoted by World Trade Center and ITU of the United Nations and is the only geo-politically recognised scaleable Public Key Infrastructure and Global Common ROOT service. Mr Rahul Kanodia, managing director Datamatics Limited said that this solution has been designed for developing nations and is part of the ECDC (e-commerce for developing countries) project of the UN.
The first product which has resulted from the alliance is a Secure PKI Portal package `TrustEportal', providing the first public-key infrastructure solution that bridges the gap between traditional, non-secure portal technology and PKI-enabled portal security. Mr R Sethumadhavan, general manager (business development), Datamatics said that since this solution was backed by the UN it gave Datamatics the access to trade promotion bodies and it would set up electronic marketplaces for them. The company is also targeting banks and financial institutions. He added that Hewlett Packard would be using this solution for it financial products.
Among the vertical sectors the company also plans to tackle healthcare. Besides this the company is also speaking with the Mauritian IT Ministry which has evinced an interest in this solution. The company is also speaking with the Swiss authorities and other governments for e-governance and e-voting. Mr Kanodia said that the revenue model was two fold. First, there is the installation process which has a licensing fee and the second mode of revenue is in its customisation. Mr Kanodia says, "the other mode of revenue could be the peripheral services. The companies using this solution may require other applications and services such as designing of portal, setting up of digital markets, content management and perhaps even transaction processing, which we could provide." Mr Kanodia said that the return on investment was potentially very high and he expected sales in "tens of millions of dollars".
He added that the base solution would cost around Rs 20-50 lakh. Datamatics is the only company involved in designing and constructing the solution and in integrating various products such as telecom, databases and smart-cards, to name a few, from various providers such as Oracle, MCI, Baltimore and others.
