Mango-growers seek 20% freight concession

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, March 15 : Mango-growers from Andhra Pradesh on Thursday sought Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's intervention to get 20 per cent concession in rail freight charges between Vijaywada and Delhi. In a memorandum submitted to Vajpayee, mango growers said, ``either we should be given a 20 per cent concession in freight charges from Vijayawada to Delhi or restoration of transportation in parcel van wagons," Andhra Pradesh Fruit Growers and Exporters Association president Shaikh Allaudin said here in a statement.

He said transportation of mangoes from Vijaywada to Delhi in BCN wagons with iron bodies without ventilation is damaging them due to excess heat, reducing the prices fetched in the market.
