Bangalore: Synopsys India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based Synopsys Inc is expanding its R&D activity in all primary areas of EDA tool development including synthesis, verifications, placement and routing. According to Synopsys Inc's President and CEO Chi-Foon Chan, the Indian operations would be continued to be used as a major offshore development center dedicated to high-end research and development and would consolidate a premier position in the EDA global electronics market. Mr Chan said,"The engineering teams at Bangalore would be closely engaged with their counterparts across the global engineering centres of Synopsys in carrying out software development and providing consulting and support services to simplify the IC design process and accelerate time-to-market for complex IC's for its customers worldwide." The $25m Indian arm hopes to grow by about 20-25 per cent during the next one year. It is mainly focussing on EDA software development, SoC methodology and wireless and telecom design services. The $700 million parent Synopsys Inc plans to grow to $1 billion over the next three years. It has a 25-30 per cent share of the total $2.80 billion EDA market. Mr Chan said,"Synopsys is a leader in thephysical synthesis technology which incorporates the placement at the synthesis level itself. This has resulted in solving timing closure problems associated with designs at 0.18 micron and below." Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
