Mumbai : VSNL has slashed its tariffs for Internet leased lines at non-cablehead stations. The new tariffs will be applicable from March 1, 2001.VSNL had earlier announced a steep reduction of upto 70 per cent forInternet leased lines. With effect from January 1, 2001, the new rates weremade available at the cable head stations, Mumbai and Cochin. The tariffs atother stations served by satellite or terrestrial leased line links wasfixed at higher levels.VSNL has now effected revision in tariffs applicable for non-cable headstations as well effecting a further reduction of about 40 per cent in thetariff. A 64K lease line will now cost Rs 2.4 lakh from the earlier Rs 4.25lakh, whereas a 128K line will now cost Rs 3.7 lakh down from Rs 6.50 lakh,and 8 Mbps will now cost Rs 85.20 lakh from Rs 140 lakh.
The reduction in the tariffs follows the feedback from customers located insatellite towns for which higher tariffs were applicable, according to acompany press release.
VSNL also announced a steep reduction and rationalization of co-location andWeb-hosting tariffs.
