Govt needs Rs 2,000 cr for upgrading tech education 

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA  
New Delhi : Over Rs 2,000 crore investment will be required over the nextseven years for upgrading technical education system in the country, thetask force on human resource development in Information Technology (IT) hassaid.

The task force has made 47 recommendations for ensuring the supply ofadequate and quality information technology manpower. These would help inmeeting both the domestic and global demands by strengthening and upgradingthe technical education system.

It has identified 17 regional engineering colleges and 33 other universitylevel established technical institutes for support. This support wouldprimarily be for computing and networking facilities to upgrade the qualityof information technology education.

At present, there are 7000 computer science and engineering institutes atdegree level with an intake of 46,188 students, 654 electronics andcommunication engineering institutes with an intake of 43,416 students and509 information technology institutes with an intake of 28,504 students.At the diploma level, there exist 509 computer science and engineeringinstitutes with an intake of 24,163 students, 607 electronics andcommunication engineering institutes with an intake of 28,403 students and152 information technology institutes with an intake of 6,255 students as ofnow.

As regards the master of computer application (MCA) level, 557 institutesare running with a intake of 24,992 students.
