New Delhi, Feb 20: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on Tuesday challenged a Trai order to extend the benefits of revised rates to inter-network calls before the Telecom Dispute Settlement Appelate Tribunal (TDSAT). "We have filed an appeal with TDSAT against Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's directive citing technical difficulties in implementing the order," BSNL sources said. TRAI had earlier asked BSNL and MTNL to implement the directive by February 20, following representation from the private basic operators as well as cellular operators that these concessional tariffs were not being applied to cellular mobiles and other private basic operators.
Keeping in mind consumer interest, level playing field and issue of non-discrimination, the regulator had issued the directive to BSNL stating that the revised tariffs should also apply to inter-network calls. Last month, BSNL had announced cut in long distance (STD) tariff upto 200 kms within a telecom circle.
The reiteration of the directive had come following objections by BSNL stating that technical problems needed to be addressed and the order needed to be reviewed.
