Will Clinton join Oracle board?

Sukhjit Purewal
Redwood Shores : On `President's Day', former President Bill Clinton delivered the keynote address at Oracle Corporation's weeklong AppsWorld convention in New Orleans, adding fuel to rumors that he may be joining the database software behemoth. According to reports, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, the world's second wealthiest man after Microsoft's Bill Gates, is rumored to have designs on placing Clinton on the company's board of directors.

However both sides have made statements to the contrary in order to quell the speculation. Clinton spokesperson Julia Payne told the Chronicle that nothing about a position has been discussed. Oracle spokesperson Jennifer Glass told the same newspaper that the company wanted the leader of the free country during the greatest period in technological achievement to address the audience Monday at the major trade show. In a company press release, Oracle, the world's second largest software company, describes Clinton as "the first high-tech president." Former White House presssecretary Joe Lockhart joined Oracle in December as communications director raising suspicion that Clinton would follow suit if Ellison got his wish. Former Republican vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp already serves on the Oracle's board.
