Mumbai : Discreet, a leader in integrated digital content creation, management and distribution tools plans to focus on providing professional services in setting up content creation facilities in addition to its existing product sales. The company is also working on a new 3D tool, gmax, which will be launched by the middle of this year. The services the company will offer will be technical services that is pre-planning, helping in set up the infrastructure, post installation and post implementation that could include creative and supervisory services. Preplanning workflow would include workflow study, workflow designs and the solutions proposed will be built around this study. Under planning they will look at the objective of setting up the facility in terms of content, the different formats, the amount of content handled and if there is already an existing workflow, the problem areas would be defined and looked into and improved by Discreet. The post-installation process offered will primarily be creativeservices as well as supervisory services. Discreet is targeting companies involved in content creation, such as production houses.Initially Discreet was restricted to just setting up the infrastructure. They will now function as the company's technology partner. The company had initiated this process when they recently set up a facility with Pentamedia in Chennai. This facility is primarily focused at visual effects for feature films and they intend to use it for the local as well as the international markets. Mr Pankaj Kedia, Manager-Advanced Systems discreet said "this process was initiated but will be formalised now. With new formats entering the video paradigm, existing post production studios will have to adopt a transition into these formats. Discreet has done this globally and this will now be implemented in India." Currently the company is working on `gmax', a 3D tool specifically for game users. This tool will be available as a free download to all game users. With this the user will be able to customise and change any part of gmax. The advantages of this is that the average time that a user spends on the game will significantly increase. They will be able create new levels, new characters and change any part of the game. The second advantage is the community of game users playing 3D will themselves be exposed to creating 3D graphics. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
