Our Bureau
Ahmedabad, Feb 19: Naval ships from several countries which participated in the eighth international fleet review (IFR) in Indian waters, have come loaded with consignments of relief materials for the people of quake-affected Gujarat.

In certain cases, ambassadors of the respective nations themselves handed over the consignments to the earthquake relief coordination cell, specially set-up by the Government of Gujarat (GoG) in Mumbai.Truckloads of relief materials, notably from South Africa, Russia, USA, Singapore and Japan, unloaded at Bombay Port Trust (BPT) docks, have been dispatched to Ahmedabad, Bhuj and other quake-hit towns. The remaining materials were being carried by Container Corporation of India.

Mr Ravi S Saxena, who has been appointed as officer on special duty by GoG at the cell, has also been authorised by the Centre to perform all the functions, to be carried out by the Central government organisations in Mumbai, such as Airport Authority of India, Air-India, Indian Air Force (IAF), Alliance Air, Customs Dept, Indian Railways and Concor. Mr Saxena in a faxed message said Mumbai has been the hub of activities in the form of help coming from a host of corporate houses and voluntary organisations.
