Medicorp gets US FDA approval for Herpes drug

Chennai, Feb 19: Medicorp Technologies India Ltd., the Hyderabad-based bulk drug manufacturer, on Monday said it has got the approval of US Food and Drug Administration for its Acyclovir drug. Acyclovir is a drug used to treat Herpes, a type of skin disorder.

A company statement issued here said, that the drug would be manufactured in its Pashamylarm manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The plant has a capacity of 70 metric tonne (mt) per annum, the statement said. The company has invested over $14 million in this manufacturing facility, to obtain the necessary approvals from the FDA. Medicorp would start the commercial production of the drug in four months time, the statement said.

The first FDA inspection was carried out late last week, the statement added.

A company spokesperson said, that Medicorp would be supplying this drug to the US market through multinational generic drug companies.
