Bangalore: The US-based Datacard Group, manufacturer of plastic cards and identity management solutions is launching advanced versions of a slew of its products in the global market within six months, according to the company's vice president (software engineering-India operations) Jim Goodland. The company's newly set up Indian subsidiary will design and develop software for these new releases.Mr Goodland told The Financial Express that the company would invest over $30 million a year towards R&D activities and product launches across the world.
Datacard's new products in the pipeline include an advanced version of its personalisation device, Datacard 900, an identification platform which includes a PC, digital camera and a printer) and Smart Card Life Cycle Management, a software that allows you to dynamically manage the information on a smartcard for multiple applications without getting mixed up or lost.
The company was also working towards the launch of an advanced version of an Image Management Platform. This platform captures a picture and digitises it from a scanner or a camera and transport it down to a central point to be merged with the data -- name, address, designation, etc. "The software for all these products are currently being designed and developed in Bangalore," he said. All these products are scheduled to be launched within six months.
"We provide vertically integrated suite of software, hardware and intergrated systems for smart card issuance and life cycle management,'' he said.
Mr Goodland said the company would also look at customisation of its image capture device and multi-application datacards for India and other Asian countries. "India has a fast growing middle class population with ever changing needs and priorities. We cash in on this opportunity," he said.
Datacard Group is the industry's leading supplier of enrollment and identification systems with more than 350 million photo ID cards issued and over 30,000 photo ID systems installed around the world. The company that deals in both contact and contactless cards, has a market share of over 90 per cent in the personalisation systems.
Datacard currently has a personnel strength of 1,700 in 130 countries. Its Indian subsidiary, that would develop strategic software components and new generation systems for Datacard products across the globe, would initially have 50 engineers. The company would pump in over $2 million in its new subsidiary in one year. The Bangalore centre would focus on the development of new generation high-end Datacard machines, multi-application smart card systems and image colour management platforms, he said.
