D-Link to focus on VoIP, Net-related products

Bangalore: Taiwan-based D-Link Corporation has drawn up an aggressive business plan for its worldwide operations with a thrust on Internet-related products, VoIP, wireless, etc.D-Link International Pvt Ltd president Tony Tsao said globally, the company would invest 8 per cent of its total turnover towards R&D activities and product releases. During calender 2000, D-Link Corporation posted a turnover of $500 million.

Briefing the media in Bangalore on Monday, D-Link (India) manager (accounts) CM Gaonkar said the company had plans to enter into specialised software segments in the networking and communication field.

The company has recently ventured into newer segments including VoIP and Digital Home products to become a one-stop-shop for all communication products. It also deals in LAN, WAN, gigabit area network (GAN) metropolitan area network (MAN), virtual private network (VPN) and Intranet, extranet and various other ICE needs.

Speaking on the occasion, the promoter of D-Link (India) KR Naik said the company's products owned distinct brand image in networking, internetworking and structured cabling products.

The company already had a software development centre in Goa and was in the process of setting up SDCs in Bangalore and Mumbai.

Currently, its engineers are being trained in specialised software and networking areas at D-Link Corporation in Taiwan.

"Our vision is to make D-Link (India) a premier technology company in the area of networking and communication with a base of manufacturing, software development and R&D," Mr Naik said.

D-Link Corporation and D-Link Asia together hold 45.31 per cent stake in D-Link (India).D-Link (India) is floating a public issue of 15,23,740 equity shares of Rs 10 each for cash at a price to be determined by book building route. 90 per cent of the issue (13,71,366) would be through book build route.
