Software exports to touch $9.5 b by 2001-02
The government has projected exports of software products to reach a level of $9.5 billion by the year 2001-02 from $4.6 billion in 1999-2000, Mr Raman Singh, minister of state for commerce and industry, has said. Exports during the current financial year are expected to reach a level of $6.3 billion, Mr Singh said, at a seminar on opportunities in IT and telecom sector at the Indiaexpo 2001 in Dubai.

Govt receives more than 110 applications for basic services
The government has received more than 110 applications for getting licences for basic telecom services in different parts of the country, telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh said. "We have received good response to the basic services and till now more than 110 applications have come covering almost all telecom circles in the country," Mr Ghosh said at Assocham's seminar, `India Can Make It.' Over 500 IT experts for Indiasoft 2001Over 500 information technology (IT) experts including 150 from abroad would participate in Indiasoft 2001, a two-day software exposition and conference starting on February 23. Indiasoft is organised by Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) and is being supported by the ministry of information and technology and commerce and industry ministry, a release said.

TCS to focus on manufacturing sector solutions
Tata Consultancy Services has announced that its focus on solutions for the manufacturing sector will help the company deliver significant value to this industry in India and globally. The thrust will be on developing solutions and service capabilities that will help companies improve their operations in the context of the prevalent "eManufacturing" paradigm, that leverages the power of the Internet to integrate the extended supply chain. This business will account for nearly 18 per cent of TCS' revenue in 2001.

Mascot in strategic pact with Versata
Mascot Systems Ltd has entered into a strategic partnership with Versata Inc, a provider of software and services that automate transaction-based ebusiness applications, to offer Versata technology solutions in a distributed delivery model. According to the alliance, Mascot will receive software licensing, developer training and rights to resell the software from Versata.

Unimobile Inc has introduced Unimobile 4.0 that enables existing enterprise applications to extend their reach to the wireless domain.
