Delphi to expand Indian after market division

Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Feb 13: Delphi Automotive Systems Ltd (DASL), global supplier of automotive components and systems, is expanding the reach of its aftermarket division in India by launching air-conditioning products. These products are also being introduced in Asia Pacific region.

Company director (Asia Pacific aftermarket operations) Hari Radheshwar said at a press conference that Delphi's air-conditioning products are the first of their kind in India, though the technology is widely used abroad. The Indian subsidiary has not met its sales target but is hopeful of achieving it soon, Delphi general manager (aftermarket operations, Indian sub-continent) Rajiv Arora said. The company's world wide sales turnover last year was $2.1 billion.

The company has recently established a software technical centre in India. The technical centre is located at the International Technology Park in Bangalore. The centre will develop microprocessor software used in embedded controls of electronic systems such as engine and powertrain controllers, anti-lock brakes, radios, instrument clusters and air control systems. In order to promote its products, Delphi is focussing on van campaigning, where the company's distributors go to shopkeepers in different cities and inform them of the latest innovations. Other than this print advertising is also being done. Talking on the sidelines of the conference, Mr Radheshwar said: "We are keeping the price of the products at competitive levels."
