At last TGI Friday's (TGIF's) saw the light of day. Their new daylight menu at the Connaught Place outlet in New Delhi has a different menu with not-so-ouch prices, catering to the office-goers.It all began with McDonald's Indianising 75 per cent of its menu to cater to the local taste-a never done before thing at any international McDonald's outlet. And with the Indian palate thirsting not only for spicy food, but curry and rice, the change had to take place.
TGIF's normal menu has main course dishes which begin at Rs 250 and can go up to Rs 650. But at this outlet, with mostly office-goers looking for a quick lunch time snack, it obviously had to climb down from its international menu and serve more down-to-earth stuff like rice and curry.
TGIF's has gone to the extent of offering mostly Indian dishes, with coconut chicken curry and coriander-based curry that is bound to do well with the Indian palate. TGIF's says that it conducted a quick survey among its guests, in which the guests expressed their desire for food which catered to the local palate. And during the weekdays, with most of the guests being the working lot, they preferred simple meals to elaborate ones.
The daylight menu has a quick selection of six-course vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, all priced at Rs 100, an amount that office-goers will shell out without squealing too much. The coconut chicken curry had a really spicy coconut gravy with boneless chicken and abed of white rice, just enough for a workday afternoon meal. The coriander vegetable curry was green curry with potatoes, capsicum and carrots. This one was fiery too. The chicken enchiladas came with rice, salad and sour cream.
The menu also includes two soups for Rs 40 each, two mixed salad platters for Rs 65 each, some snacks and appetisers and a range of `pronto' pizzas and pastas also for Rs 100 each.
The menu is served between 11 am and 5 pm and there's a happy hour on the beverages too, with a one free with every one ordered. This definitely is a good change from the usually hefty prices at TGIF's, making it more accessible to all. Added to the ambience, it makes a good place to stop by for a meal.
