IBM targets integrated tech services market

Kavita Nair
Mumbai: IBM is aggressively targeting a twelve per cent share of the $400 million Integrated Technology Services (ITS) market in India. ITS focuses on planning, designing, implementing and maintaining infrastructure (data centres and networks among others), and this offering from IBM is being positioned to address the changing business needs of its customers in the Indian market place. Mr Sanjiv Pande, country manager Integrated Technology services says, "we are targeting a twelve per cent share in this segment by the end of 2001." Ms Jessica Tan SN, director, Integrated Technology Services ASEAN/South Asia says, "traditionaly ITS used to be product centric. With e-business the focus in the requirement of the customer, apart from building and implementing the infrastructure is in optimisation.

Optimisation in terms of support for business growth, scalability and 24/7 networks." For this purpose ITS encompasses 3 business initiatives - e-enablement, IT optimisation which includes services offerings such ascapacity management, performance management and continous business operations. The third service looks at infrastructure and the security services around that. ITS will be following a total systems management approach wherein they will work with the customer on a consultancy basis to understand their business priorities and their IT environment. Then together with the customer they will develop a framework that will allow them to integrate the existing infrastructure optimally. Commenting on the marketing strategy Ms Tan explained that ITS has a direct sales force, business partner network and telesales coverage. IBM also plans several marketing events such as roadshows in Mumbai and Banglore. Mr Pande said that the company will be investing largely in reskilling their technology support resources and also in building their existing talent base. They will also leverage their e-business solution center at Gurgaon in New Delhi to conduct their pilot project for identified customers.
