Ashu Kumar
New Delhi: In a bid to find a new business avenue, Planetasia.com, an Internet business solutions and service arm of Microland, is talking to UK-based broadband service providers to forge a partnership in developing broadband content delivery software.

Talking to The Financial Express, co-chief executive officer of Planetasia Jawahar Bekay said that the company was seriously planning to enter into broadband content delivery technology in the near future as there would be tremendous demand for such a technology.

"We are talking to some UK-based broadband service providers for developing software solutions for beta projects," said Mr Bekay adding that Planetasia has already formed a dedicated research group to work on broadband content delivery in one of its software laboratories. The company is also launching its other services in UK and setting up a branch office in London in next quarter, he said.

Talking about other initiatives in new technologies, Mr Bekay said that Planetasia is also working on wireless technologies but the efforts are focused on developing expertise in wireless gaming software for wireless devices like cellular phones, PDAs and handheld devices. Planetasia is already working with a US-based company for developing prototypes.

"We think the gaming software applications will catch the users' fancy faster in wireless devices before any other kind of applications and therefore this should be the focus area to start with. Moreover, PC also became popular initially because of gaming applications," he said.

Mr Bekay also said that the company is gearing up its activities in other geographies and opening branch offices in Singapore and Middle East. "Though we have been doing business in these areas as remote operations but did not have any official presence. The branch offices will help in boosting business in these countries," he said.

The company is operating only in US through a chain of sales offices and one proximity development centre in California. The US market currently contributes around 60 per cent of company's revenue while Indian and rest of the World market contributes 20 per cent each. According to Mr Bekay, the company is planning to increase its revenue from rest of the world market to 30 per cent this year and will reduce Indian market revenue to 10 per cent.

Mr Bekay said that Planetasia has developed around 100 projects in which its has created many intellectual property components useful for Internet application and tools. The company has also developed product and application frameworks in areas like e-procurement and knowledge management, he added.
