New Delhi, Feb 2: Samsung Electronics India (SEI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, Korea, has been renamed as Samsung Electronics India Information and Telecommunication Ltd. Samsung subsidiary has also formally launched its laser printers in the Indian market.Addressing a press conference here on Friday, SEI managing director KS Kim said that the name has been changed to make it more meaningful and make the company more concentrated in IT and telecom market. "Our focus for 2001 will be to reinforce our dominance in IT and telecom markets. We will be launching a range of new digital products during the year to redefine the market," he said.
Samsung is expected to gain around 30 per cent share of the laser printer market in India in one year, claimed Mr Kim. The company currently holds around 6 per cent market share of laser printers which are being brought and sold in India through import channels. The sales of printers through the subsidiary will give a major boost to Samsung in Indian market, he said.
The company on Friday launched five laser printers ranging from the entry level printers to network and multi-functional printers. The printers are priced in the range of Rs 19,750 to Rs 55,000 depending on the model and features.
The SEI is currently selling computer components and peripherals like hard disks, optical disk drives like compact discs and digital video discs, multimedia kits etc. The company is also selling telecom products such as cellular phones in the Indian market. Currently, Indian subsidiary contributes around 1.5 per cent of the Samsung's worldwide revenue and the share is expected to go up to 2 per cent next year, said Mr Kim.
