LCC Info may offer computer training in govt schools

Kolkata : LCC Infotech Ltd is holding talks with the governments of West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh for the introduction of computer training in schools aided or owned by the government, after having launched the project in Orissa. On Thursday, LCC Infotech inaugurated its computer education courses in 1028 government-aided or controlled schools in Orissa. Under the programme, equipment and faculty will be provided by LCC and the course fees will be realised from the students. According to managing director Kirti Lakhotia, who took over after the demise of her promoter-husband Mr Suresh Lakhotia, the company expects to generate close to Rs 150 crore in revenue in five years through the training programmes in various schools and train around 20 lakh students.

At a press conference today, she said the company, along with others, is in talks with the state government for a similar project in West Bengal, where there are over 1000 schools owned or aided by the state. Apart from this, the company is looking at the possibility of introducing computer education in colleges also. LCC Infotech will be launching a new course for children in the first half of February. Initial plans are to open 300-odd centres for training children which will be different from the existing set-up for adults.

The company added 32 training centres in the third quarter to December 31, 2000. LCC now has 812-odd training centres spread across five countries. A senior official said that the company is going ahead with its plans to have a network of 1000-odd training centres by the end of the year. Its software division is looking at the small-medium enterprises for offering soutions, he said. It is also looking at increasing revenues in areas like B2B, e-Customer Relationship Management and e-Business Intelligence.
