Bangalore hosts workshop on tech business incubators

Our eFE Bureau
Bangalore : The participants at the recently held first international workshop on technology business incubators in Bangalore have recommended the setting up of technology business incubators for converting innovative ideas to marketable products and services by entrepreneurs. The workshop was attended by delegates from China, Japan, Egypt, Germany, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, the US and UK. In order to bring about changes in entrepreneurial issues, the delegates suggested that governmental participation was required to help the enterpreneurs in their endeavours. Other recommendations included initiating a programme for promoting technology business incubators (TBIs) by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (the department of science and technology) besides introducing appropriate mechanism for promoting and facilitating the growth and development of TBIs.

According to them, the state and central governments should appoint an exclusive head to handle annual allocations for TBIs. The fund may be augmented with support from financial institutions, multilateral agencies and private investors, they said. Special incentives should be offered for venture capital funds to promote, support and market various technologies emerging from these incubators. The participants also recommended an annual or biannual national and international conferences organised by industry and government agencies to share the experiences of TBIs in India and abroad. They also called for promoting trade of high quality, hi-tech products and services across international boundaries thereby enhancing the quality of life.
