AP plans seeking sanctions from legislature

Our Bureau
Hyderabad, Jan 31: In a bid to give a major thrust to the privatisation process and to brush out the hurdles in its way, the Andhra Pradesh government has proposed to take clear sanctions from the legislature.

While releasing a strategy paper on state public sector reforms, Andhra Pradesh industries minister K Vidyadhar Rao said the government is contemplating establishing an independent board to carry out the privatisation and restructuring process of the state owned public sector enterprises, including co-operatives. The board will be constituted under a specific law for privatization, he added. The proposed board will be accorded the judicial process so that it can exclude the jurisdiction of lower courts to entertain applications concerning privatization process, the minister said. However, the proposal is just a draft one and it has to be put before all the stakeholders ,including the workmen and trade unions, Mr Rao added. On the contrary, the proposed board will be constituted by drawing professionals from various fields, besides minister for finance and industries, as its members.
