ICL Q3 net up 155% to Rs 13 crore

Jan 31 : India Cements Limited (ICL), riding on improved realisation, has managed to post a 155 per cent increase in its net profit to Rs 12.60 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2000. For the corresponding period of the previous fiscal ICL had registered a profit of only Rs 4.95 crore. Despite sharp increase in prices, cement turnover of the company, however, stood at Rs 333.49 crore, an increase of three per cent. This was on account of lower volumes, especially in Andhra Pradesh where manufacturers have cut supplies to maintain prices at current levels.

Punjab Tractors Q3 net up 19%
PUNJAB Tractors Limited, the Mohali based unit has turned excellent quarterly results, against weak tractor industry conditions and has increased its share from 17.6 per cent to 19 per cent during the third quarter. The operating margin has also improved to 20.5 per cent, taking the profit to Rs 55 crore which is the highest quarterly level. AEL net profit up by 28% to Rs 17 cr Adani Exports Limited (AEL) has posted a 28 per cent rise in net profit to 16.7 crores, during the quarter ended December 2000 as compared to Rs 13.03 crores in the corresponding period the previous year. The super trading house achieved a growth of 8.5 per cent in turnover to Rs 843.93 crores, during Q3.

ITIL net at Rs 79 cr
Information Technologies (IT) India has announced a 45 per cent rise in turnover to Rs 79.28 crore, for the second quarter ended November 2000. Net profit during the quarter improved by 50 per cent to Rs 24.67 crore. During the period, annualised earning per share on equity shares of Rs 5 face value stood at Rs 7.1. Bank of Madura Q3 net up to Rs 15 cr Bank of Madura Ltd has nearly doubled its net profit to Rs 15.27 crore for the third quarter ended December 2000, as against Rs 8.02 crore during the corresponding quarter last year. Total income was at Rs 125.57 crore (Rs 108.60 crore). Total expenses was at Rs 96.14 crore (Rs 91.51 crore). Provisions (including income tax) was at Rs 14.16 crore (Rs 9.07 crore). M&M net falls by 47%Automobile major Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) has reported a 46.7 per cent drop in net profit to Rs 43.80 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2000, as against Rs 77.78 crore reported in the corresponding quarter last year.

Sales for the third quarter stood at Rs 904.87 crore, registering a drop of 8 per cent as against Rs 983.46 crore in the same period last year.

Gujarat Ambuja net down by 40% to Rs 33 cr
Gujarat Ambuja Cement has reported a 40 per cent dip in net profit in the third quarter ended December 2000, to Rs 33 crore compared to Rs 55 crore in the previous year. Net sales for the quarter were higher by 5.03 per cent at Rs 298 crore compared to Rs 283 crore for the same period last year. Other income, however, reduced by 50 per cent at Rs 2 crore for the period compared to Rs 4 for the same period in 1999.

KMCL net up 12%
Kinetic Motor Company Limited (KMCL) continues to buck the scooter industry trend, with growth in both sales and net profits during Q3. Net profits is up by 12 per cent to Rs 3.58 crore from the previous year's Rs 3.17 crore. Sales and income from operations for quarter ended December 2000 is Rs 100.84 crore compared to Rs 96.62 crore for the same period last year.

Mukta Arts posts net profit of Rs 2 cr
Mukta Arts has reported a net profit of Rs 2.05 crores for the quarter ended 31 December 2000. The gross income for the period stands at Rs 5.05 crores. The EPS for the same period is Rs 0.93. The company has entered into a contract with Windmill Holdings, a front company of the B4U Group, for the sale of domestic satellite rights of eight movies for US $3.13 million.

Padmalaya Telefilms net profit up by 163%
Padmalaya Telefilms has reported a 163 per cent increase in its net profit for the third quarter ended 31 December 2000. The net profit is Rs 3.82 crores against Rs 1.45 crores for the same period last year. Total income for the period stands at Rs 12.15 crores as compared to Rs 6.12 crores for the corresponding poriod last year. Goodlass paints net profit falls 48%Goodlass Nerolac Paints Ltd has reported a 47.77 per cent decline in the net profit in the third quarter ended December 2000, compared to the previous year. The net profit was reported at Rs 5.15 crore for the quarter ended December 2000 as compared to the net profit of Rs 9.86 crore in December 1999. The total income for the third quarter in 2000 was higher at Rs 178.73 crore compared to Rs 169.3 crore the previous year.

Mirc Electronics net profit down to Rs 27 cr
Mirc Electronic's has posted net sales of Rs 216,67 crore for the third quarter ended Decemember 31, 2000 as against Rs 248.79 crore posted for the corresponding period ended December 31, 1999. After taking into account total expenditure of Rs 194.13 crore (Rs 221.52 crore), interest of Rs 6.71 crore (Rs 4.96 crore), depreciation of Rs 2.40 crore (Rs 1.47 crore) and tax of Rs 2.68 crore (Rs 4.10 crore), the net profit of Rs 13.58 crore (Es 17.29 crore).

GE Shipping Q3 up by 123% to Rs 41 cr
In line with the industry trend, The Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd (GESCO) notched up a 123.3 per cent increase, in net profit to Rs 41.54 crore for the third quarter ended December 2000, as against Rs 18.60 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Asian Paints posts 10% net growth
Asian Paints has posted a growth of 10.41 per cent in net profit to Rs 25.66 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2000, as against Rs 23.24 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal. Net sales have increased by 3.92 per cent to Rs 313.64 crore during the quarter as compared to Rs 301.82 crore. Gross sales registered a marginal growth of 4.1 per cent at Rs 387.87 crore compared to Rs 372.73 crore for the corresponding quarter of the last financial year. Profit before tax stood at Rs 38.44 crore - an increase of 12.50 per cent as against Rs 34.17 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.

BASF net up 3% BASF India Ltd recorded a net profit of Rs 6.96 crore in the third quarter ended December 2000, a 3.1 per cent increase as compared to Rs 6.75 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net sales recorded a 3.9 per cent increase for the quarter at Rs 105.59 crore as compared to Rs 101.53 crore the previous year. Other income also reported an increase of 79.5 per cent at Rs 2.80 crore for the quarter as compared to Rs 1.56 crore in 1999.
