New Delhi, Jan 31 : Samsung's wholly owned subsidiary, Samsung India Electronics closed the calendar year 2000 with a turnover of Rs 1,950 crore, up 44 per cent from last year's turnover of Rs 1,350 crore. Net profit during the year was up from Rs 32 crore to Rs 50 crore.The Korean major has plans to play the convergence card aggressively with the launch of Samsung e-mart and `Samsung digital world' customer care. The company has projected a turnover of Rs 2,850 crore with a net profit of Rs 80 crore for 2001. Consumer electronics is expected to yield around 58 per cent and information technology and telecom sectors around 42 per cent in 2001, up from 38 per cent in 2000.
The company has plans to further consolidate its home appliance business this year through new range and feature enhancements.
Samsung India has announced its new corporate initiative to become a digital e-company where digital denotes its digital product portfolio, and `e' stands for its management processes.
The company is working towards creating a digital work life for its employees through automating the work-flows and it further announced its e-business strategy both for its B2B and B2C applications.
Samsung India managing director KS Kim, while addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, said that `Samsung digital world', a first initiative of its kind, will help build and enhance long term personalised relationship with its customers and reinforce brand loyalty among its customers. Samsung has launched a host of special privileges and offers for customers across planet, galaxy and universe categories, the digital world will also provide discounts, special co-branded offers and priority on service. Company vice-president (sales) R Zutshi said Samsung India any expects to have around three lakh members in the digital world in the first year itself.
Meanwhile, Samsung emart is a facility for online ordering offered by Samsung which will deliver goods at the doorstep on request from anywhere in the world. By 2003, around 3 per cent of the turnover is expected to be from sales through the net, Mr Zutshi added. Mr Kim admitted that the turnover in 2000 fell slightly short of the target as supplies of air conditioners were affected in the first quarter.
