Mumbai, Jan 29 : Bullion: Gold and silver prices extended gains on the bullion market here. Physical buying was slow but traders reported brisk speculative demand in the wake of poor supplies from Gujarat and particularly from Ahmedabad.Silver .999 lifted by Rs 25 at Rs 7,930 per kg after gaining Rs 75 on Saturday. Silver .916 was up by Rs 20 at Rs 7,820 as against a rise of Rs 75 on Saturday. Industrial buying was slow but poor supplies from Ahmedabad kept offerings limited during the day. Due to heavy burden of taxation in Mumbai, most of the arrivals were earlier coming from Ahmedabad into the city market which has now halted on account of the earthquake, dealers said. In the global market silver eased to $4.79 ($4.81) per troy ounce.
Standard gold placed steady at Rs 4,430 per 10 gm. so was gold .22 carat at Rs 4,100 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) moved up by Rs 50 at Rs 51,800 per piece amidst tight supplies from Gujarat. In the overseas market gold remain steady at $263 per troy ounce. Uptrend in dollar value against rupee also help the firm tendency for both the precious metals, one broker added.
OIL, OILSEEDS:
Groundnut oil closed steady on the oil, oilseeds market here. Castorseed and its oil ruled weak on fear of halt in the export following damages caused to Kandla Fort following the earthquake, dealers said. Groundnut oil maintained at Rs 305 per 10 kg amidst slow transactions. Rajkot markets remain closed. Imported palmoil edged up a rupee to Rs 199 per 10 kg. Eased supplies and upsurge in dollar value against rupee attributed the market sentiment. In the global market palmoil fell by $5 at $220 per tonne for nearby delivery while long deliveries were quoted at $230/240 per tonne. Castor oil reacted by Rs 3 at Rs 282/294 per 10 kg. Castorseed ready were down by Rs 15 at Rs 1,260 per quintal in sympathy. There was no trading in castorseed February delivery today.
Castorseed April delivery will commence from Tuesday (today), floor sources said. Castorseed February delivery placed Rs 2 lower at Rs 198 per 10 kg. Palmolien futures market remain absent from trading.
In Ahmedabad castorseed forward contract was changed hands at Rs 1,247 and in Rajkot at Rs 1,246 per quintal respectively while major market-yards in Gujarat were closed following series of earthquake.
