Mumbai : The IIT Techfest 2001, IIT's annual technology festival held at the IIT Bombay campus this week featured a mixed bag of innovation, business and academia in a range of subjects ranging from the Internet to biotechnology. Apart from the mandatory tech talk, the Techfest incorporated a workshop and lectures on stocks and equities in a bid to familiarise students and budding entrepreneurs on the currency of the New Ecconomy.Techfest 2001 was inaugurated by Mr Anand Mahindra who outlined his optimism for the New Economy. Commenting on the evolution of New Economy businesses, Mr Mahindra said that he saw the emergence of business models which will depict a confluence of ideas from both the Old and New Economies.
The festival also saw participants like Philips, Creative, Sony, Casio, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and Apple set up stalls to display their latest products. Smart homes, MP3 Watches and Nomad jukeboxes all formed part of the exhibits at the Technoholix Exhibition which drew participation from major technology players.
Techfest 2001 was sponsored by Web Tek Software. The festival has in the past drawn sponsorships from companies like Selectica, IBM and AMD and typically sees participation from about 700 colleges across the country.The Appropriate Technology Contest, The Contarption Competition, the Innnovation Contest, Open Hardware and Open Software were some of the major draws for outstation participants.
