Diamond forever

HUMA SIDDIQUI
For those who love diamonds, there is a new cause for celebration. A new design range in diamond jewellery, DIA, was recently showcased at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai, by designer Devaunshi Mehta. She will be retailing her first line of diamond jewellery from the shelves of the family-owned Mohanlal Raichand & Sons, which also houses big international brands like Chopard, Piaget, Carrera Y Carrera, Korloff, Vacheron and Constantin. Says Ms Mehta: "The line will include a blend of Western and Indian jewellery designs."

DIA range includes an entire range of jewellery consisting of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bangles and brooches. "Primarily in yellow 18k gold, a part of the DIA collection also has white gold jewellery," she adds. The jewellery comes with embedded diamonds. The range also offers a range of diamonds.

"The art of designing jewellery requires hours of labour and a complete knowledge of jewellery making techniques," Ms Mehta explains. "What comes to my help here is the backing and experience of the family business,'' says Ms Mehta. She adds, "While creating a new collection, a designer always has to keep in mind his or her customers who will be wearing the jewellery. DIA looks beyond fashion and determines jewels in shapes, materials, stones and colour that gives the wearer a lasting pleasure.''

Quality of the jewellery is upheld by stringent selection of diamonds and precious stones. Only stones of exceptional quality are chosen, matched and cut to embellish pieces, fashioned by expert hands to achieve true perfection. "DIA designs are for a woman who is modern and yet believes in her femininity," adds Ms Mehta.
