Kolkata, Jan 23: Indian Aluminium Company Ltd has registered 119 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 30.7 crore during the third quarter this fiscal over the same period last year. Sales increased by 18 per cent to Rs 325.3 crore, while the profit before depreciation, interest and tax (PBDIT) rose by 69 per cent to Rs. 68 crore during the period. The Aditya Birla Group company also recorded an impressive 39 per cent hike in exports at Rs 104 crore mainly due to better export performance of chemicals and sheet businesses. While there was a seasonal drop in demand for certain product segments, domestic sales volumes of sheet showed a marginal improvement during the quarter. The continuing over-capacity in the downstream foil segment, however, had an impact on sales and export of the foil and packaging business, it said.Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
