`Kerala can be an ideal IT destination'
Ajayan
Kochi, Jan 17: Kerala can be the most ideal destination for the IT sector, according to Infosys Technologies chairman and CEO NR Narayana Murthy. Here for the first time in connection with the launching of the centralised banking solution of the South Indian Bank, Mr Murthy added that Kerala would be considered in the next phase of Infosys expansion though it has no presence in the State as of now and is confined to just seven centres. Trade union militancy was still a black mark on Kerala's legacy, he felt. There was the need for more flights to Europe and the US where things were happening. Better school education was another point IT firms considered while entering an area. Data communication through a high bandwidth was another equally important factor. In the present working couple scenario, it was important that if one of them worked in the IT industry, the other would need a job somewhere else in the same area. It was necessary that along with the IT sector, other sectors too flourished. Englisheducation was an important factor that most in the IT industry wanted for their children. The issue of domicility was another issue hampering the entry. When it came to education, most States had rules that the student should have lived in the State for a certain number of years. When he learnt that domicility was not an issue in Kerala and English education was allowed in the State, he said Kerala met most of the parameters needed for the IT industry.Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
