DD yet to decide on Metro slots

Our eFE Bureau
New Delhi: Prasar Bharati has not taken any decision yet on allotting the late night time slots on DD Metro to any party. Following a poor response to the recent auction of the five 30-minute slots on DD Metro, a select committee comprising senior officials of Prasar Bharati met on Wednesday to thrash out the issue. But after the meeting, an official said that no decision had been taken on the matter. According to the official, some of the members of the committee looking after the DD Metro auction were not present at the meeting, and therefore no decision could be taken. As to what transpired at the meeting, the official refused to divulge anything. Earlier a Prasar Bharati board meeting was scheduled for January 17 to take a decision on how to come out of the tricky situation after a solitary bidder responded to the DD Metro auction. But, ultimately only a committee meeting took place instead of a board meeting. Within a day or two, the committee will meet again to discuss the bidding issue. After TVToday's Hindi news programme Aaj Tak withdrew from DD Metro on December 30, 2000, to start its own channel, Prasar Bharati announced an auction of five 30-minute slots on the channel from 10 p.m to 12.30 a.m for entertainment programmes. But only one company - Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) - responded to the auction.

PNC bid for the 10.30 to 11 p.m slot at a floor price of Rs 7.5 crore.
