Infosys likely to invest in Kerala in next phase
Kochi : Infosys Technologies Ltd chairman and CEO Mr N R Narayana Murthy said on Wednesday that in the next phase of expansion of their operations, no opportunity would be missed to invest in Kerala. Speaking at a press conference here immediately after the launch of the Sibertech project of the Thrissur-based private South Indian Bank Ltd, Mr Narayana Murthy said ``we are looking at various opportunities. In the next phase, we will loose no opportunity to invest in Kerala'. On Kerala's potential as an it destination, he said Kerala had tremendous talent availability. But while taking other factors as nearness to international airports, growth potential and job opportunities, some of the other places were seen as more attractive than Kerala, he said.Infosys was presently operating in eight places in the country: Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Maharashtra, Bhubaneswar and Punjab. The trade Union problem in Kerala would have to be addressed. The unions must recognise that if more jobs had to be created, more industries should come to the state. Mr Murthy, who is the member of National Information task force, said the Indian it industry would expand by 30 to 40 per cent in three to five years. The Prime minister had set a target of $50 million in terms of it export, he said adding `we are working to achieve that target'. On the Indian position in it sector, Mr Murthy said India had for the first time in its history received considerable recognition as a software player in the global market. In no other export area, it had reached this level, he said. Mr Murthy said more flights from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram should operate to destinations in Europe and East.
