Kolkata: Information technology is gradually becoming all embracing. Even the swamis of the Ramakrishna Mission are not left out. The computer savvy swamis of Ramakrishna Mission at Advaitya Ashram located in central Kolkata, have released a 10,000-page CD on Swami Vivekananda, the great monk and founder of the Ramakrishna Mission. Although the CD costing Rs 700 has been released on Friday by the secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Swami Probhananda, the number of its pre-release booking has already crossed 1,000-mark. Ramakrishna Mission has its units located in all continents across the globe, including in erstwhile communist Russia. "The CD will not only benefit the English-knowing followers of Ramakrishnadev, but also philosophers, researchers and common men," said Swami Bodhasarananda, secretary of Advaita Ashram. Popularly known as Arvind Maharaja, he is the leader of the team which undertook the task of compiling the CD. The CD contains complete English works of Swami Vivekananda(nine volumes and 5,000 pages), his two-volume biography written by eastern and western scholars (1,200 pages), six volumes of articles on Swamiji by Sister Gargi (Merie Louis Burke), the great American scholar, 300 historical pictures, quiz etc. The preface has been written by Ramakrishna Math and Mission's president, Swami Ranganathananda. The CD, developed by Ahmedabad-based software company, SFL, will be available at "advaita@vsnl.com". It took two years to develop it and a lot of technical work were also done in Kolkata and Chennai. The collected works of Swami Vivekananda continues to be one of the best sellers even almost after 100 years of his death. Most of Swamiji's articles and speeches were earlier published in `Prabuddha Bharat', the only English monthly magazine from India which can claim uninterrupted publishing for more than a century. This is edited at Mayabati, Almora, in the Himalayas and published from Kolkata. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
