Tata Teleservices to offer limited mobility in AP

Our Bureau
Hyderabad, Jan 13: Tata Teleservices Ltd, the basic service provider in Andhra Pradesh, is gearing up to introduce limited mobility facility in the state with an additional investment between Rs 500 crore to Rs 1,000 crore, thanks to the recent Telecom and Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) recommendations to the government in this regard.

"We are ready with the network and just waiting for the Union government's clearance," TTL managing director S Ramakrishnan told mediapersons in Hyderabad on Saturday while announcing the launch of the services in Guntur. "We hope the government will accept the Trai's recommendations in this regard," Mr Ramakrishnan said, adding all the issues/problems will be sorted out in four to six weeks' time. "We will be able to launch in 2 to 3 months' time once the government clears. We see additional investment is necessary as we have to expand our infrastructure, network capacity and call centres to meet the demand for limited mobility facility," he said. The company has revised its original investment outlay to Rs 5,000 crore.

"With frequent changes in the government's policies we may deploy the entire amount in a short period," Mr Ramakrishnan said. The Trai's suggestions were made after a number of meetings. It had taken into consideration the views and suggestions of the public, cellular operators, basic service providers, and other interested personalities, he claimed. Interestingly, Mr Ramakrishnan said, "Of course, we will compete with Tata Cellular, though a sister concern. Our market and services are different from that of Tata Cellular's. Ours is only limited to cities and one can always see customers overlapping."
