Bangalore : The Delhi-based tehelka.com which blew the lid off the match-fixing controversy is planning simultaneous domestic and overseas (Nasdaq) IPOs within six months. Tehelka.com which is currently working on a full-fledged corporate strategy - which is expected to be unveiled in March 2001 - is aiming to rake in a turnover of $30 million by the end of next fiscal.Mr Anirudda Bahal, a journalist turned director of tehelka.com told The Financial Express that the company had a slew of products/projects and programmes in the pipeline. The company has tied up with BBC, MTV, UK TV, Star Plus, CNBC, Channel V, TV 18, Zee TV and Doordarshan to provide news and infotainment-based programmes.
The new programmes currently being designed included, ``tehelka tees minute'' a 52-episode, investigative, real-story-based weekly programme, scheduled to be telecast from April 2001.
Mr Bahal said the company was also working on four different programmes - news and entertainment - for Zee TV. The programmes are expected to be telecast from March April 2001. Tehelka.com is also designing a music-based programme for an Indian music channel. According to Mr Bahal, the portal was currently selling content to newspapers like Straits Times and Punjab Kesari and was in talks with another eight dailies.
On the company's media design business, he said, ``We want to be the top-of-mind world-class media design house. Initially, we are expecting clients from the US, UK and Gulf markets.'' The company does online & offline media design, corporate identities, industrial packaging, etc. Tehelka.com recently bagged a $2 million order from a couple of firms in the UK and Gulf to work on their corporate identities, brochures and web sites. The company recently opened its London office.
The portal is planning to launch its customised homepages for London, the US and Gulf in six months while homepages for Singapore and Africa are expected by end of calendar 2001.The company would also introduce a general weekly magazine targeted at India and Indians living abroad in May. ``We will set up franchise networks for publishing and distribution in North America, the UK and Gulf,'' Mr Bahal said.
Computing software is another area where tehelka.com is trying to get into. The company is all set to sign a deal with a US firm for an offshore-based back-end & front-end work. The company has put in place a team of 20 engineers for the project. Also on the cards is a music album - sufirock - by Rabbish Shergill. Produced by KJ Singh, the album which is currently being recorded in Mumbai will be made available in April on CDs and cassettes.
