Pune, Jan 6: The Murthys do not live here anymore. But the city is close to the couples' heart. It is from Pune that the Infosys juggernaut began its journey It is here that the engineering duo of Sudha and Narayana Murthy met, married and nutured Infy from a modest flat at Pune's Model Colony. Pune has been reaping rich dividends since then.The city got a massive development centre in return when a triumphant Mr Murthy came back to open the Pune operations of Infosys Technologies.
Now Sudha Murthy's Infosys Foundation has got into the act and the foundation will be offering Rs 6.5 crore to the city for setting up a super speciality building at Sassoon Hospital for treating the poor free of cost.
Sassoon is a 100-year-old hospital which is attached to the BJ Medical College.
State chief secretary Arun Bongirwar, Director of Medical Education and Research, Dr Mrudula Phadke, and Infosys' Foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy, met recently to discuss the project.
The building will include cardiology, cardio thoracic, nephrology, neurology, urology, neonatology and endocrinology units, apart from diagnostic centres and operation theatres.
