PM leaving for Vietnam today
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will leave on a week-long visit to Vietnam and Indonesia on Sunday. Mr Vajpayee will sign several agreements on agriculture, tourism and culture during the visit. Mr Vajpayee, who reaches Hanoi on Sunday on the first leg of his three-day official visit, will hold discussions Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and Communist party Secretary General Le Kha Phieu.Badla rates down to 11 per cent
The badla rates dropped considerably on Saturday. It slipped to a low of 11 per cent from a high of 14 per cent last week.Brokers attributed the sharp fall in badla rates to massive purchases by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) during the settlement ended on Friday last. FIIs' net investment during the first five days of the week stood around Rs 1,000 crore.
Three replacements in BSE-500 index
The BSE has made three replacements in the BSE-500 index with effect from January 8. Cheminar Drugs, Chicago Pneumatic and Hindustan Development have been excluded and, in their place, Pancea Biotech, Dredging Corp and Atco Industries have been included, the BSE said in a release on Saturday.
FCA at record high of $40 billion
India's foreign currency reserves continued their upswing when they touched the $40 billion mark, an all-time high, for the week ended December 29. The reserves raised by $201 million to $40,008 million as compared to $39,807 million for the last week. Minister asks bank staff to support VRSUnion minister of state for finance Balasaheb Vikhe Patil on Saturday appealed to the bank employees not to oppose the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) but instead help the Centre in its reform process.
Nitish resignation sent to PM
Union agriculture minister Nitish Kumar's resignation from the Union cabinet has been forwarded to the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
