New Delhi : Foodgrain production in 1999-2000 has surpassed all time record, with the final estimate now putting the country's produce at 208.88 million metric tonne. Final estimates of foodgrain production are higher by 2.97 million tonne of 1.42 per cent, compared to the corresponding advance estimates, an official statement said here. The increase of 2.97 million tonne was mainly in rice (1.23 million tonne), wheat (1.32 million tonne), jowar (0.21 million tonne) and pulses (0.30 million tonne).The final estimates in respect of oilseed production was 208.7 lakh tonne against the advance estimate of 211.8 lakh tonne, a shortfall of 3.10 lakh tonne or 1.49 per cent. The revised estimates for rice stand at 89.48 million tonne, wheat at 75.57 million tonne, jowar at 8.86 million tonne, bajra at 5.66 million tonne, maize at 11.47 million tonne, ragi at 2.38 million tonne and barley at 1.46 million tonne.
Revised estimate for coarse cereals stand at 30.47 million tonne, cereals at 195.52 million tonne, tur at 2.79 million tonne, pulses at 2.13 million tonne and gram at 5.08 million tonne. The revised estimates for total pulses production stands at 13.36 million tonne.
For oilseeds, revised estimate for groundnut stands at 53.1 lakh tonne, rapeseed and mustard at 59.5 lakh tonne, linseed at 2.9 lakh tonne, safflower at 2.8 lakh tonne, sunflower at eight lakh tonne and soyabean at 67.9 lakh tonne.
