New Delhi : Entrust Technologies, a US-based Internet security solutions company, has decided to sell its Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) software solutions in India to enable digital signatures certification and verifications.The PKI software will be required by all the companies and Government organisations which are planning to become the digital signature certifying authority or want to introduce signatures in their day to day operations.According to the executive vice-president and chief technology officer of Entrust, Mr Brian O'Higgins, the company will market its solutions through a Baroda-based company, Ecomenable. The Indian company is already associated with Entrust and sells Entrust's Web server security solutions and certification services to e-commerce companies.
Mr Higgins said that Entrust has decided to offer its digital signature enabling products in India because the country has tremendous growth potential in e-commerce sector. He said that the number of Internet users are growing more than 200 per cent in India making it a large market for such solutions.
Entrust will initially target banking and finance sector to market its PKI software product, said Mr Higgins adding that the Government will also be one of the biggest customer of such solutions in future. "We are meeting the controller of digital signatures to initiate the process," he said.Entrust is a spin off division of Nortel Networks. Nortel has formed a Secure Networks group in 1994 which was later hived off as an independent company under Entrust. Nortel, currently holds around 30 per cent stake in the company. Entrust claims to have around 35 per cent share of the total PKI market around the World. Ecomenable, an Indian company, is an exclusive affilliate partner of Entrust for marketing its product and services in India. The company claims to have developed a team of Entrust certified engineers to support the product and services of the foreign company in the country.
