Indore : Union Information Technology (IT) minister, Mr Pramod Mahajan on Thursday said that he is not in favour of merging the ministries of IT, telecom and information and broadcasting to form one compact ministry as each is important in its own way.It is not wise to make one out of three important ministries of telecom, information and broadcasting and Information Technology, especially in view of the amount of work involved and number of employees associated, Mr Mahajan told reporters here commenting on the issue of Convergence Bill seeking merger of the three ministries. However, he added that it is his personal view and he is against any such proposal.
Mr Mahajan who is also the minister for Parliamentary Affairs said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government would also introduce a Bill for fixing the term of the Lok Sabha for five years and expressed confidence that the NDA government will remain in power for the full five year term.
Elections cannot be held again and again for raising the number of seats being won by various parties, he said. On the issue of BJP's strategy for the forthcoming assembly polls, Mr Mahajan said that the party's national executive meeting on Tbursday would discuss the issue.
About Mumbai film industry, he said that Bollywood must adopt transparent methods for making films, especially the finance part, and it should work like Hollywood film industry+.
Transparent accounting is must and films should also be insured for their success and failure, the minister said adding it is a big industry and can earn foreign exchange for the country.
Inaugurating the Software Technology Park of India's (STPI) earth station here on Wednesday, Mr Mahajan said the country's software export Bill will touch the $50 billion mark in the next ten years and the nation will soon become an economically sovereign nation.
