Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 24: Commercial banks in Kerala have disbursed Rs 2,834 crore to priority sector during the first half year ended on September 30.This amounts to 44 per cent of the disbursement target of Rs 6,483 crore set for the year 2000-2001. Out of Rs 2,834 crore disbursed, Rs 1,276 crore was for agriculture sector alone. While Rs 465 crore was disbursed to small scale industries (SSI), Rs 1,093 crore was given to other priority sectors.
This information was made available in the 73rd meeting of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) held here recently.
The total deposits of the banking system as at September 2000 in Kerala touched Rs 41,217 crore. Out of this, the NRE deposit accounted for Rs 20,045 crore. Total advances as on September 30 this year was Rs 17,532 crore. Total advances and investments in approved securities/debentures was Rs 20,661 crore. Total advances to the priority sector touched Rs 8,321 crore. This amounted to 47.46 per cent of the total advances outstanding.
