Bangalore: The network marketing firm Modicare is launching a slew of products under home and personal care segments with a view to becoming the largest network marketing chain in the country, according to the company's managing director Mr Samir Modi. The new products are expected to hit the market-in a phased manner-by December 2001.Mr Modi said the company would launch colour cosmetics and skin care products under its brand ``essensual.'' Under colour cosmetics, the company plans to introduce mascaras, blush-ons, kajal pencils, eye-liners and markers while under skin care segment it would roll out facepacks, moisturisers, toners, cleansing creams, whiteness cream, etc.
He said the company would also launch floor cleaners and body washers including anti-bacterial soaps. It also plans to introduce blues, metal cleaners and air purifiers, he said.
Under personal care, Modicare would introduce men's toiletry products including after-shave, shaving creams, gells and cologne, etc. New products in the pipeline also include baby powder, baby lotions and baby soaps.
Toys under ``Lil' Ones'' besides laundry detergent, stain remover for fabrics and upholstery, carpet cleaner and tooth plaste (Freshmoments) are also on the cards.
Mr Modi told The Financial Express that Modicare would boost its brand- building exercise by pumping in 10 per cent of its revenue.
Currently, Modicare has R&D facilities in Mumbai and Greece and is currently in the process of setting up another R&D facility in the US in association with local partners, Mr Modi said.
Modicare currently has direct presence in 55 cities while in over 2,000 cities it has presence through couriers. Currently, the company has 5,00,000 resellers-against 407 in 1996-which is growing by 30,000 a year.
Mr Modi said the company has plans to get into exports starting with South Asia and the Middle East.
Modicare would set up its online selling facility and all its centres would be wired together by March 2001, he said. The company has earmarked 10 per cent of its revenue for R&D, one per cent for social causes-AIDS awareness programme-and 20 per cent towards training its consultants across the country.
