Taxindiaonline.com -- Making government-speak easier

Neeraja Kumar
New Delhi : And now a "B2G" Website, leveraging the communication gaps in the Government machinery to make money. But Taxindiaonline.com doesn't just give you access to the latest notifications from the Commerce and Finance Ministries, and the facility to get any queries clarified from the very bureaucrats who issue the notifications, on a pay-per-query basis. It also provides tips on what to do when a law enforcement agency raids your premises.

Interestingly, it's not just the corporates, but even bureaucrats who pay good money to the site owners to get quick access to circulars, especially the hard to get "foreign training, transfers, and seniority list for promotions" notifications, which are at a premium. "Even the officials posted in remote areas of the country, who otherwise would have to wait for months to get notifications, pay us a fee to get personalised clarifications from concerned officials," said Mr Shailendra Kumar, promoter, Taxindiaonline.com.

Notifications and circulars, which are vital for any duty paying entity, are usually sent by "snail mail" in government departments, and they take several weeks to reach even the metros, leave aside smaller cities which house almost 50 per cent of duty-paying units. "But we put up these notifications within 24 hours of their being issued on our site, which can then be accessed by officials residing in remote areas," he added. The site also posts impact analysis of some of the notifications having all-India implications. Apart from this, Taxindiaonline.com also gives tips on how to set up units in SEZ and EPZ and how to handle show-cause notice. Also posted on site are news from the tax and international trade world, forms of customs, central excise, income tax and service tax, and a telephone directory giving you numbers of key customs, income tax and other officials across the country.

The Website also claims to have a panel of highly-qualified and experienced team of advocates, chartered accountants and retired revenue officials of the ranks of member, chief commissioner, commissioner, who give `Smart Opinion' to corporates on show cause notices and adjudication orders for filing appeals. "Against a nominal fee, this team provides the best possible points one can have from a show cause notice," said Mr Kumar.

In about seven months, the site has crossed half-a-million-mark in terms of page-views a month, with a daily average is a little more than 18,000 accesses. "In terms of number of people visiting it, it is about 64,000 visitors a month," he added. The companies who have signed up the services of the site include Max India, Hero Honda, Indo Rama, BPL, IPCL, besides a large number of exporters, said Mr Kumar.
