New Delhi : Mythological programmes will continue to be a thrust area for Doordarshan, according to Prasar Bharati sources. ``It is the constant endeavour of Doordarshan to select/ approve serials based on Indian mythology for telecast on its various channels,'' said an official.The proposals submitted by the private producers on sponsorship/ minimum guarantee are considered on merit, according to the official. The various factors that are kept in mind while approving the serials include concept and storyline of the programme; production values/ quality of the programme; commercial viability of the programme; and programme requirement of Doordarshan.
Although 10 proposals were sent for approval last year, only two serials have been approved. The approved serials are `Jai Ganga Maiya' and `Jap Tap Vrat'. Apart from the approved serials, the other eight proposals were: Vishnu Puran from B R Films; Ganesh Mahima from Hansa Vision; Shrimad Bhagwat from Shant Ketan Films; Jai Sri Ganesh from Namesh Shivay Entertainment; Jai Jwala Maa from Bodh Shilp Movies, Jai Jagadambe from Numero Uno, Jai Santoshi Maa from One Minute Films Production; and again Shrimad Bhagwat from B R TV.
