New Delhi : The Sunil Mittal-promoted Bharti group is planning to roll out its broadband services in key cities by March next year. Speaking to The Financial Express, Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and managing director of the Bharti group said: "The broadband team would be ready to launch services in the cities of Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore by the month of March next year." The broadband division has been positioned as the distributor of Bharti's other services, such as Internet services and long distance. Working on the hub-and-spoke model the company would initially set up hubs or data centres in these four main cities to be followed by other cities at a later stage of expansion. According to Mr Mittal, since the size and the location of these data centres will vary, the exact investment figures have not yet been worked out. The broadband services division was set up earlier this year under the networks arm of Bharti, during a comprehensive restructuring, wherein three separate streams ofmanufacturing, telecom services and international operations for `clear and linear business vision' were delineated from the group's activities. The broadband division was set up with the intention of providing end-to-end integrated solutions to customers, who are likely to be big corporates. Under the restructuring process adopted, the Telecom Services group was divided into four operations: the basic, mobile, networks and ISP businesses. The broadband division headed by Mr Ashok Juneja, along with the long distance, infrastructure development and VSAT operations, comes under the Networks division, which is the overall responsibility of the group president BD Khurana.
