Nocil vaults 100% since Nov 1

Virendra Verma
Mumbai, Dec 13 : The share price of the petrochemical company Nocil, promoted by Arvind Mafatlal group, has been on an upward move on the bourses since the beginning of November in anticipation of a leading foreign petrochemical major taking stake in the company. The stock from November onwards has already more than doubled with volumes in the counters increasing many folds. Nocil share, which was trading around Rs 8 at the beginning of November closed at Rs 17.45 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and Rs 17.5 on National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday, a rise of around 120 per cent. Even volumes have incerased very sharply during this period from average daily volumes of 12,000 to 13,000 shares to over two lakh shares. However, on Wednesday, the volumes were substantially higher on BSE with 1,82,878 shares changing hands, while on NSE the volume was 1,06,956 shares.

Tough Nocil has announced that they would go for a foreign equity partner as part of its restructuring plan. But the rumours going round in the market are that shortly the company is going to announce about the equity tie-up at a much higher price than the prevailing market price to petrochemical company Basell. In addition, the proposal to use the huge money the company is expected to rake in from this equity infusion for re-paying the debt is also attracting interest in the stock. When contacted by The Financial Express, a senior official of Nocil confirmed about the proposed foreign equity stake but did not disclose the name of the company and timing of the equity offer.

"There is a proposal to demerge various businesses of the company. The matter is before Bombay High Court and we are awaiting its approval before going ahead with the equity issue plan," he said.

Under the three-tier restructuring of Nocil, petrochemcial business would be spun-off into a separate company to be called Nocil Petrochemicals, rubber chemicals business would be called Nocil Rubber Chemicals, and the remaining businesses would be with Nocil.
