BPL Refrigeration to unveil new series, undergo change of name

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Calcutta, Dec 13: BPL Refrigeration Ltd, to be renamed as BS Refrigerators Ltd, is working on the launch of a series of new models in line with customer expectations.

"We are currently working on streamlining manufacturing operations and strengthening Research and Development activities for the purpose," a company official said.

The company has also decided to focus on the Direct Cool segment, which was hitherto not a focus area to enhance its reach and volumes, the official said. Officials said the name of BPL Refrigeration Ltd would be changed to BS Refrigerators Ltd and the consent of shareholders and other approvals would be taken in company's coming annual general meeting. "Penetration of refrigerators on all-India basis is still at around 15 per cent, leaving vast scope for growth in sales of refrigerators," he said.

The idea to focus on the Direct Cool segment was being adopted as the performance of the company, which so far remained dependent on frost-free segment, was severely affected following de-growth in the segment last fiscal. The company introduced two new models of Direct Cool refrigerators in the last fiscal, the official said. He said the exposure to International class and variety of products has enhanced the consumer interest in refrigerators, which was evident from the increasing shelf space being occupied by refrigerators in major sales counter despite low penetration.
