Bangalore, Dec 13: The Rs 829-crore Cummins India is planning to increase focus on construction business. Currently valued at about Rs 10 crore, the company hopes to boost this to Rs 200-300 crore over the next 2-3 years.According to company chairman Ravi Venkatesan, "We have formed a separate construction equipment division to take care of the business from this sector. We hope to capture 60 per cent of this market in the next 3 years." The construction equipment division will exclusively cater to the domestic market. Cummins is expecting demand to be spurred by the increased government expenditure in infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Cummins unveiled its 4B and 6C engines for construction equipment at Excon 2000, currently under way in Bangalore. The compnay claims that its engines offer greater ruggedness and better performance. Mr Venkatesan said,"We want the Cummins engine to be at the heart of each machine, just like Intel Inside of each PC." The company assures to repair its product within 24 hours of being notified and identify the fault within 4 hours. It hopes to cross Rs 1,000 crore turnover in 2000-2001.
