Bhubaneswar : The Orissa government is seriously thinking about making the state legislators computer-savvy.State parliamentary affairs minister Nalini Mohanty told The Financial Express that the government is considering a proposal to provide computer and Internet facilities to the members of legislative assembly. He said the government has already worked out the required investment, which stands at Rs 4.41 crore. This amount would be needed to provide computer and Internet facilities to the 147 MLAs. The recurring expenditure would be about Rs 2.94 crore per annum, he said.
He, however, pointed out that the time is not appropriate to implement the proposal. Computers are yet to penetrate the state. District and block offices and other public institutions are yet to introduce computers. The ministers are also not computer-friendly. So, the MLAs would not be able to take benefit of the computers, he said.
No state in the country has introduced a computer scheme for the MLAs, the minister said. It is only the members of Parliament who have been provided with computers, he pointed out.
