Chennai : In order to get a lion's share in the online learning pie of Rs 150 crore, growing at the rate of 40 to 45 per cent annually, Satyam Educational Services Limited (SESL), has launched `learnatsatyam.com'- a virtual learning campus to impart education and training in IT and management to corporates and individual students. The recently formed wholly-owned subsidiary of Satyam Infoway Limited (Sify) has a revenue-sharing tie-up with the US-based online IT education service provider, Element K, for IT training and software skills. According to the company's estimates online training is expected to reduce the training costs of the corporates by 60 to 70 per cent. The e-learning site will help the students registered with it to interact with virtual instructors who will take them through their courses. There will be message boards that contain post-classroom discussions and thoughts, along with virtual field trips to real-life application sites to add value and enrich the online experience. Further, there is a 24-hour online reference facility from Element K, apart from the journals and web resources for each course. The content for the diverse areas will be offered using ISOPIA-based delivery systems, for which it has a technical tie-up with the Canada-based ISOPIA.
Apart from interactive classrooms, self-study courses and business courses for corporates for skill upgradation are also available. The site offers 500 titles in 40 course packets, with new courses being offered every week. The portal will provide a platform to discuss ideas, clarify concepts and exchange opinions with a global student community. The course fee will vary from the number of modules opted for and the number of IDs a corporate buys. Its retail subscribers will be provided a free course initially to give a taste of the training offered.
Speaking at the press meet to announce the launch, Mr R Ramaraj, managing director of Sify, said that the company aims to provide an opportunity for students and managers to improve their skills.
