Zee Interactive expanding operations

Our eFE Bureau
Bangalore : Zee Interactive Multimedia Ltd, a subsidiary of Zee Telefilms, is expanding its operations to 26 cities in the next 12 to 18 months. The company, which provides Internet access over the cable network, will provide its service over the HFC (hybrid fibre and coaxial) network.

Zee Interactive Multimedia sales and marketing head Mr Abhay Garg told The Financial Express that a full-fledged rollout would happen shortly using the HFC network in 26 cities. He said the network would be set up in six cities including Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai within a year.

Currently, the company provides Internet access over cable only in Bangalore to around 2000 subscribers. Highlighting the advantages of cable access over dial-up and DSL, Garg said while dial-up access necessitated the use of a telephone and the subsequent inflated bills, DSL was copper dependent. Also, wireless access was not easily available and was very expensive. Pointing out the disadvantages of dial-up, Mr Garg stressed that its bandwidth was limited. He further said that cable Internet access allowed for speeds up to 30 mbps that is 500 times faster than that of dial-up access.
